Who Should Attend: IDDT administrators, supervisors, team members, physicians, nurses, case managers or peer support specialists who have already attended the Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment 101 and want to further their understanding of the key components of the Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment practice.

Overview: Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment is an evidence-based practice designed for adults with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. When implemented with high fidelity, IDDT is associated with: decreased hospitalization, homelessness, incarceration and service costs; increased continuity of care, stable housing and social connectedness. Michigan has been in the process of implementing IDDT as part of a co-occurring capable system of care for several years. This training is designed for IDDT team members who are new to an existing team or new IDDT teams to familiarize them with key components of the practice. Focus will be paid on practice applications at each stage of training.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this training, participants will:
- Be able to determine at least three interventions for each stage of treatment
- Practice motivational Enhancement strategies and high-yield documentation for individuals in persuasion stage
- Complete a pay-off matrix relative to their own, their agencies and their system’s readiness to implement the IDDT practice
- Identify three different methods to address cravings and relapse triggers in action stage individuals
Presenter Information:
Jennifer Harrison – MSW, LMSW, ACSW, CAAC is a Clinical Social Worker and Program Manager for Co-Occurring and Evidence Based Practices for Kalamazoo Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and the Southwest Affiliation PIHP including Allegan, Cass, Kalamazoo and St. Joseph counties. Ms. Harrison has 15 years of clinical practice experience with adults and children, most of it working with clients with co-occurring disorders, plus clinical supervision experience with multi-disciplinary teams, program development and fidelity monitoring experience. She is trained in IDDT, DBT, CBT and MI and serves as an adjunct instructor at Western Michigan University in the MSW program. She also serves as a MIFAST lead reviewer for IDDT fidelity.
Mark Lowis – LMSW, CAC-R has been a leader in the state of Michigan for the integration of treatment for persons with co-occurring disorders in both the mental health and substance abuse network. He was a member of the SAMHSA Policy Academy Delegation, the Michigan Police Academy and serves on the IDDT Committee and MIFAST team. He led the systems change effort in Oakland County and has hosted trainings for clinicians and psychiatrists across the state. Mark is a member of the International Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and has provided trainings to mental health agencies, substance abuse coordinating agencies, probation and parole officers, individuals with developmental disabilities and others.
Credits: The Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards (MACMHB) approval #1140, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org Approved Continuing Education Program (ACE). Approval Period: November 10, 2007 to November 10, 2010. MACMHB maintains responsibility for the program. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval. Social workers participating in this course will receive 6 continuing education clock hours.
