The Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards (MACMHB) is a private trade association representing the Community Mental Health Services Programs of Michigan in devising practical ways and means for mental health planning, care and treatment within the State. Any Community Mental Health Services Program duly established under the provision of P.A. 258 of 1974 as amended shall be eligible for full membership in the Association. Affiliate status may be extended to any agency, organization, or individual whose purpose is the delivery and/or support of community mental health services and whose activities and goals are consistent with guidelines adopted by the MACMHB Member Assembly. Affiliate members may participate in many of the MACMHB's sponsored events and services, but they have no voting privileges in the Association and are not eligible to hold office in MACMHB.

The Michigan Association of CMH Boards 1) acts as a medium through which Community Mental Health Service Programs maintains meaningful and effective relationships with the Michigan Department of Community Health, the State Legislature, and voluntary and professional organizations;2) advocates for maintaining and strengthening locally controlled and locally accountable public community mental health programs 3) promotes the development and establishment of best practices in serving consumers of mental health services; and 4) provides excellent training, networking and technical assistance opportunities to its members and their staff.

The following is a summary of the current benefits and services available to affiliate members.

Association Bookstore
The Association develops and maintains reference material and other sources of information for use by members. Items purchased through the Association Bookstore are provided at member/non-member rates including MACMHB publications, training workbooks, Boardworks video series, videotapes of selected seminars, and publisher discounts on national publications.

Association Recognition Awards
The Hal Madden Outstanding Service Award, Go to Bat for Mental Health, and Nuebacher Media Awards are presented annually to professionals who are recognized and celebrated for their achievements in the mental health industry. Affiliate members will receive nominating privileges for these Association Recognition Awards which are presented annually.

Boardworks 2.0
The Boardworks training program is available to all affiliate members. This nationally recognized certificate program assists board members in understanding their role in setting organizational policy and improving their governance practices. Members and Affiliate Members which have at least 50% of their board members awarded Boardworks Certificates are given special recognition annually from MACMHB for "Excellence in Board Member Education".

Channing-Bete Scriptographic Books
Association and Affiliate Members are eligible for a discount of up to 42% of regular price on specialized Scriptographic books with complete flexibility concerning the timing of order and booklet selection.

Community Mental Health Directory
Affiliate Members will be listed , as an affiliate member of the Association, in the annual Community Mental Health Directory published each Spring by the Association.

Conferences and Education
The Association provides three annual conferences, frequent seminars, networking meetings and regional education events on topics regarding mental health. Affiliate members will receive individualized advance notice as well as member rates for Association sponsored conferences and trainings, including clinical, administrative and board member events. This is a savings of at least 20% from non-member rates.

Group Medical Plans
Medical plan benefits are being developed at group rates, only for Association Members and Affiliate Members. When these benefits become available, depending on the size of your organization, this could save substantial dollars.

Group Purchasing Initiatives
The Association regularly brokers group purchases for its members. In the past this has included office equipment and supplies, publications (e.g. DSM-IV Manuals), and products such as computers, software and Managed Care Technical Assistance. New products and services are regularly evaluated on behalf of our members in an effort to maximize our collective purchasing power.

Job Bank/Staff Recruitment
The purpose of the Job Bank/Staff Recruitment Project is to strengthen member organizations by helping in their efforts to secure highly qualified staff. The Project is a cost-free service to Member and Affiliate Member organizations and to all potential job applicants. Only Members and Affiliate Members may post a job opening.

Legislative Advocacy
The MACMHB serves as a legislative voice at the state level of government. The Association evaluates pending state and national legislation and provides regular updates and alerts on current issues regarding mental health, which includes policy and appropriations, as well as the Association's position on these issues. Action alerts are also sent to members and affiliate members as issues and situations arise. Affiliate members are invited to participate in the Associations annual Legislative Reception, held each February in Lansing along with the opportunity to participate in the Association's Political Action Committee.

National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare
Through a special arrangement , MACMHB members and Affiliate Members will receive a 50%discount in their annual membership in the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare.

Michigan Association of CMH Boards Affiliate Membership
Dues are based on size of budget:
     $310/up to $2,499,000
     $620/$2,500,000 to $4,999,999
     $2,075/$5,000,000 and above
